Medical Scribe/ Medical Assistant

Missouri Highlands Health Care is seeking a full time Medical Scribe/ Medical Assistant for our OB/GYN Clinic in Poplar Bluff. The Medical Scribe/ Medical Assistant will be directly supervised by their direct physician and will be ultimately responsible to their Clinic Manager.

A scribe’s core responsibility is to capture accurate and detailed documentation (handwritten, electronic, or otherwise) of the encounter in a timely manner. Scribes are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations while capturing or entering information into the health record or EHR beyond what is directed by the provider. Scribes are responsible for capturing medical information at the point of care which allows the provider to focus on bedside manner and provide hands-on, attentive, face-to-face care that increases both patient and provider satisfaction. The general duties of a scribe may vary and can include:

  • The Medical Scribe will assist the provider in navigating the EHR.
  • The Medical Scribe must be able to locate information for review (i.e., previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results)
  • The Medical Scribe must respond to various messages as directed by the provider.
  • The Medical Scribe will enter information into the EHR as directed by the provider.
  • The Medical Scribe will research information requested by the provider.
  • The Medical Assistant will render professional quality health care to patients, under the clinic provider’s supervision.
  • The Medical Assistant must provide population health to our patients to improve the health of an entire human population.
  • The Medical Assistant must be aware of and comply with required services and data, according to the Health Care Plan and the Quality Assurance Plan of Missouri Highlands Health Care.
  • The Medical Assistant must be able to gather adequate historical data and ensure patient comfort, flow and confidentiality.
  • The Medical Assistant must be able to maintain medical records, according to the Quality Assurance Plan of Missouri Highlands Health Care.
  • The Medical Assistant will collect and record defined data and prepare reports for Missouri Highlands Health Care, and others, as required.
  • The Medical Assistant will perform nursing duties, under the supervision of the physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse, such as, but not limited to:
    • Execution of standing orders for medication refills, order needed tests and provide routine preventative services.
    • Placing patients in exam rooms and recording vital signs, current complaints and pertinent history;
    • Assisting the provider in treatment of patients;
    • Providing patient education;
    • Preparing exam rooms and instruments, as appropriate to anticipated utilization; Cleaning common office space and treatment areas, as necessary;
    • Assisting in office hour emergencies to keep communications open;
    • Keeping inventory and preparing purchase requisitions for submission to purchasing agent for needed supplies;
    • Striving to learn other ancillary duties, such as X-Ray techniques, laboratory procedures and, if necessary, some billing procedures;
    • Relieving and assisting the receptionist in receiving patients and calls, when needed;
    • Performing all other duties, as required.
  • The Medical Scribe/ Medical Assistant must have high school education or GED equivalent.
  • The Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant must be motivated to serve the needs of the provider and perform services to benefit Missouri Highlands Health Care.
  • The Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant must possess reading and verbal skills necessary to understand and communicate requests given by the provider.
  • The Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant must possess a clean and neat appearance and good hygiene habits.
  • The Medical Scribe/ Medical Assistant must possess a sense of discipline to work in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards.
