Job Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing department within a healthcare facility. This position requires a dedicated professional with extensive experience in nursing management and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. The DON will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, promote resident rights, and foster a culture of excellence among nursing staff.

Duties

  • Lead and manage the nursing team, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews of medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with Medicare standards.
  • Supervise nursing staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Ensure that resident rights are upheld and advocate for the needs and preferences of residents.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop care plans that meet the individual needs of residents in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
  • Monitor quality assurance programs and participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the healthcare setting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to home health, nursing homes, and assisted living.

Skills

  • Proficient in MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments and documentation review processes.
  • Strong nurse management skills with a focus on team development and leadership.
  • Experience in supervising nursing staff in various healthcare settings.
  • Knowledgeable about resident rights and advocacy principles.
  • Familiarity with Medicare regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Background in home health services, nursing homes, or assisted living environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
